The Writers’ Collective is a Winnipeg-based non-profit charitable organization established in 2000 as The Collective for Professional and Developing Writers. We are dedicated to assisting writers of all skill levels in Manitoba, with a focus on new and emerging writers. We are a friendly, down-to-earth grassroots organization, and operate with the assistance of Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism, The University of Winnipeg Library, and membership fees. We also receive vital and generous donations from The Winnipeg Free Press, Friesens Printers, and CBC Radio.
In addition to offering workshops and programs on campus at the University of Winnipeg, we collaborate with several community partners on a variety of literary events. Such partners include Aqua Books (274 Garry Street)—Speaking Crow Open-Mic and the Lansdowne Poetry Series–the Millennium Library –100 Minutes with an Author—and The Winnipeg Free Press—co-sponsor of our annual Non-Fiction and Short Fiction contests.
